- Audit log format: Can you extract a complete decision trace for any production output? In what format, on what timeline?
- Failover policy: What happens when the model tier is deprecated or unavailable? Is there a documented, contractual fallback path, or is “switching” your problem?
- Model-swap guarantee: Can you swap the underlying model without production interruption? Is that transition contractually supported?
- Governance API: Does the vendor expose a governance interface your compliance team can operate? Or does every compliance event require manual intervention per incident?
- Incident response SLA: What is the contractual response time for a governance-triggering production failure? Who owns remediation, and what is the escalation path?
- Deployment maturity documentation: Can the vendor produce evidence of their own Runtime Maturity: incident history, recovery procedure documentation, SLA track record across production deployments?
If a vendor cannot answer these eight criteria with documentation, you are buying model capability. You are not buying Execution Continuity.

- Reclassify your AI budget by layer. Split current spend into model-layer and runtime-layer. The ratio is your baseline diagnostic. Most organizations discover 80% or more concentrated in model-layer spend with nothing compounding on the runtime side.
